Listening is at the foundation of any documentary. It’s all about discovering a story’s characters, the environment in which they exist, and ultimately, the challenges they face and seek to overcome. Our process begins with a conversation to help reveal these core, narrative pillars.

Our goal is to collaborate with our clients to create thoughtful, personal and impactful (real) stories that cut through the noise. This is the power of the documentary.

Questions we ask during Pre Production:

1) Who are the characters?

2) What challenges do they face?

3) How do they overcome these obstacles?

4) How does their journey reflect on the world around them?

One of our core tenants is to not overproduce a story. We like to keep our production team small and flexible. This helps people relax and stay open about their journey. It also allows us to more deftly follow the story and make necessary pivots as the narrative unfolds. Whether it’s capturing a spontaneous human moment or diving deeper into an interview, having an open and adaptable mindset is at the foundation of our process.

The edit suite is where the magic happens. It’s where we knit together all these unique and disparate pieces - the interviews, the visuals, sound design, and music - into something cohesive and engaging. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts!
